Grandma’s potato pancake

I’m happy to share with you a traditional recipe for grandmother’s potato pancakes:


1 kg potatoes

1 onion

2 eggs

2 tablespoons flour



oil for frying


Peel the potatoes and grate them on a coarse grater in a bowl.

Place the grated potatoes in a clean dish towel and squeeze well to remove as much liquid as possible.

Peel the onion and grate it into the bowl with the potatoes as well.

Add the eggs and flour to the potatoes and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Mix everything well until you get a homogeneous mass.

Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

Put a tablespoon of the potato mixture into the pan at a time and press it flat to form small patties.

Fry the potato patties until golden brown and crispy on both sides.

Place the finished Reibekuchen on paper towels to drip off excess oil.

Serve the potato pancakes with applesauce or sour cream.
