Ingredients
1 1/2 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed and cut
1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions, divided
1/4 cup sliced mushrooms (optional for extra texture)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Step 2: If using fresh green beans, blanch them in boiling water for 3-5 minutes, then drain and cool in an ice bath.
Step 3: In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper until smooth.
Step 4: Fold in the blanched green beans and about 2/3 cup of the crispy fried onions until well coated.
Step 5: Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes or until the sauce is bubbling.
Step 6: Remove from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 2/3 cup of crispy fried onions over the top. Return to the oven for another 5 minutes until the onions are golden brown.
Notes
To make this ahead of time, assemble the bean and sauce mixture, cover, and refrigerate. Add the onion topping just before the final stages of baking.
