Start by putting a few drops of bleach in a container filled with water. Next, soak the sponge in the solution for an hour to completely disinfect it and rinse it.
Next, cut the sponge into small pieces. Mix them with the soil and perlite.
When the mixture is ready, you can use it to cover the soil of your plants before watering them. Perlite is an ingredient that allows aeration of the soil while improving drainage. As for the sponge, it will keep your plant well hydrated.
