How do I get super soft towels without fabric softener?

It’s a wonderful feeling  to be able to wrap your face in a soft and fragrant towel. Unfortunately , aggressive detergents and very frequent washing can  harden  the  fibers  and over time you no longer have the pleasant feeling of  softness  .

A very simple supermarket fabric softener is usually used in  washing machines. But not everyone knows that fabric softeners consist of chemicals that form a kind of film.

This film only gives the feeling of softness that will be temporary. Without forgetting that industrial cleaning products pollute the environment around us.

However, there are some  natural remedies  that help us  soften towels without any problem even without fabric softener  !

Let’s find out together!

Vinegar

Grandmother’s best-known and most popular  home remedy for cleaning the  house  can only be:  vinegar  !

Whether  white or apple  , it is an inexpensive and easily available product. It has many properties: it is a  natural anti-limestone  , it  disinfects  and also has a softening function!

In addition, let’s not forget that it is one of the most suitable household products  for eliminating bad odors,  even in the washing machine.

You may be wondering how you can use it  to have soft and fragrant towels  . In reality, a  few spoons  in the special compartment of the washing machine would be enough to notice the difference!

Additionally,  the vinegar revives the colors  , so your towels will truly look like new when dyed!

chamomile

If your towels are rough, they need a  softening  and somewhat “relaxing” treatment.

You got it right! We’re talking about  chamomile  ! We often use this natural remedy to promote sweet nights and have a calming effect. But few people know that it  is very useful for softening towels in a completely natural way  .

It is necessary  to boil 1 liter of water  and   let it brew 1 bag of chamomile , which we use for herbal teas.

After it is ready and completely cooled, pour it directly into the basin of water and soak the clean but rough towels.

Let  them soak for about fifteen minutes  , squeeze them and spread them out of direct sunlight. They will be soft and enveloping!

bicarbonate

There are some really hard towels that just don’t seem to want to get softer. But we have the solution for you!

If the towels seem to be scratching your face every time you wash them, take a  bowl of water  and add a nice  spoonful of baking soda to it  . You need to soak everything for a whole night and then spread it out after squeezing it.

Baking soda softens the fibers and eliminates bad smells!

Salt

Never forget that  salt  is an inexpensive and versatile way to get super soft towels,  even without fabric softener .

The  salt  balances the  hardness of the water  , which is often calcareous and is therefore responsible for hardening the towels.

You can add a little salt to each wash to balance out the water and make your towels much softer!

Salt, baking soda and vinegar

You can  combine different natural remedies  to get a winning mix and have very soft towels even without fabric softener.

You will always need the famous basin of warm water into which you can pour a  glass of vinegar  ,  50 grams of fine salt and 30 grams of bicarbonate  .

You will notice that a reaction occurs where the baking soda balances the properties of the vinegar.

Soak the towels and  let them soak for a while  . Once you have dried them well, there is a little trick you can follow.

To “lift” the fibers of the sponge  and return a soft appearance to our towel, many people pass a  soft brush over the fabric  , restoring the function of the fibers and revitalizing them.

This makes them look like new towels!

Of course, these natural remedies are great for softening rough towels, but we have plenty more tips for you, even for the washing machine!

Tips in the washing machine!

Wash them separately

It may seem trivial, but a few small precautions  to take when washing in the washing machine  can make a difference when we wash towels.

The ideal would be  to wash them separately and separate the white ones from the colored ones  . This way we don’t take any risks.

Do not load the washing machine too heavily

When washing in the washing machine, we must consider the load to be washed. Very often, out of haste or boredom, we tend to  fill the whole basket,  but there is nothing  wrong  !

Because even if you use an ecological fabric softener and don’t do it yourself, there is a greater chance that the clothes will remain stiff or even wrinkle.

Charge in the right place without overdoing it.

Use the correct temperature

Not everyone knows that there is the  right temperature  to guarantee softness to our towels. Of course, they also need to be disinfected thanks to the high temperatures.

But to have an ideal approach when washing in the washing machine, we must prefer a wash of  60 ° for white towels and 40 ° for colored towels  .

For colored and dark clothing, you cannot use this temperature to discolor your towels.

Not too much detergent

We recommend using natural or ecological and environmentally friendly products. In addition, the correct amount of detergent must be used to ensure the softness of the cloths.

In fact, detergent residue  , along with limescale,  is  one of the causes of rough towels and suboptimal laundry  .

So even if you use ready-made detergent or fabric softener, it only takes very little to notice an improvement.

Use tennis balls

Like aluminum balls, tennis balls are   one of the alternative ways  to soften clothes without detergent.

In fact, thanks to the mechanical action of the basket, the tennis balls   in contact with the towels have an  electrostatic effect  that inflates them and makes them much softer.

So it can be a good alternative if you don’t have one or more of the specified remedies.

Remember that it can be very useful to use the dryer, which stimulates the famous swelling of the fibers of the towels, making them very soft even without fabric softener!

Caution

Of course, we remember to always follow the washing label to use the most appropriate method
