How to prepare a mattress disinfectant spray: Remove mites and stains

Changing bedding and keeping the bed clean are essential to avoid the accumulation of mites and dead cells that pose a threat to our health. But how much attention do you pay to the mattress? In this article we explain how to  prepare a spray to clean the mattress.

Every night, the dead cells of our skin accumulate on the bed along with dirt, creating a perfect breeding ground for  dust mites to multiply  . These microscopic organisms are harmful to our health, especially for those who suffer from asthma or allergies.

Changing bedding is not enough to   prevent dust mites from accumulating on the mattress. For this reason, it is good to clean them regularly.

To freshen up your mattress, simply remove the sheets and give them a little shake. But sometimes that might not be enough. Prepare the spray using the recipe below to ensure you have a clean and mite-free mattress.

Mattress Disinfectant Spray Ingredients   :

  • 250 ml water
  • 250 ml vinegar
  • 8 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
  • 8 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 8 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • a 500ml spray bottle (or larger).

Pour water and vinegar into the bottle, then add the essential oils and shake to mix the ingredients.

Spray it directly onto the mattress and leave it on for a few hours. Allow it to dry completely before putting the sheets back on.

Vinegar has natural  disinfectant  properties and helps perfume fabrics. Eucalyptus oil  has cleansing properties and has a beneficial effect on the skin. Lavender oil  has antibacterial properties and its aroma stimulates sleep, while  peppermint oil  is a highly effective natural repellent.
