The moment of the day when we suffer the most from the heat is certainly the night , because even when it is cooler we lie restless in bed and look for some coolness during our night’s rest.
And so we toss and turn , sweat a lot and often leave yellow stains on the bed linen. However, if the sheets and pillowcases can be removed and changed, the same cannot be said for the mattress .
That’s why today we’ll take a look together at how to refresh your mattress from sweat with these do-it-yourself tricks!
What will you discover?
- 1 Natriumbicarbonat
- 2 vinegar
- 3 Marseille soap
- 4 lemon juice
- 5 Talc pads
- 6 Refreshing scent
- 7 To rid it of mites
Natriumbicarbonat
The first ingredient we recommend is sodium bicarbonate, which has whitening, degreasing and stain-removing properties. In addition, it has an antibacterial effect, which can also prevent the formation of mites.
So all you have to do is add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to a bowl with 400 ml of water , mix thoroughly and pour the resulting mixture into a spray bottle.
Then evaporate on the mattress and ideally let it dry outdoors or with the balcony and window open. Alternatively, you can pour the baking soda directly onto the mattress , leave it to act for half an hour and then remove it with a brush or vacuum cleaner. Your mattress will be like new!
Vinegar
Another very effective ingredient for refreshing the mattress is vinegar , which can also eliminate bad odors such as the smell of sweat. You must therefore pour a glass of vinegar into a bucket of water , dip a cloth in the solution thus obtained and squeeze it well so that it becomes moist and not wet.
Then carefully place it on the surface of the mattress, let it dry as seen before and… game is done!
Marseille soap
When it comes to perfuming and refreshing pantry ingredients, one cannot ignore Marseille soap , which will give your mattress a touch of freshness and guarantee you a restful sleep thanks to its delicate scent!
So in this case you have to put 1 tablespoon of soap flakes in a bowl with 400 ml of water , dip a cloth in the solution thus obtained and then wipe the entire mattress with it, making sure that it is well wrung out.
Finally, let it dry and… your mattress will be like new! As if that wasn’t enough, Marseille soap will also help you remove stains and sweat rings that form on the mattress!
lemon juice
If there is a food ingredient that is particularly known for its refreshing effects, it is definitely lemon , the citrus fruit with an intoxicating scent that can also remove bad smells from the bathroom!
Then pour the juice of a large lemon into a bowl with 1 glass of water , put the resulting mixture in a spray bottle and spray it on the mattress.
Finally, let it dry and… it will be a pleasure to smell the lemon scent on sultry nights!
Talc Pads
As strange as it may seem to you, talcum powder is not only a soothing powder for irritated children’s skin, but also a product that can absorb stains and refresh and perfume textiles.
For this we can use it to freshen up our mattress , but also to absorb the fat that is deposited on the pillows!
You must therefore sprinkle the mattress with talcum powder , leave it to act for a while and then use a brush to remove the excess dust.
Refreshing scent
Finally, let’s see together how to prepare a scented DIY freshener that can refresh, perfume and clean your sweat-soaked mattress.
You must therefore provide yourself with the following:
- 500 ml water (preferably distilled)
- 25 drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
Then add two tablespoons of baking soda and the drops of essential oil to a bowl of water.
We recommend that you prefer tea tree oil to also disinfect your mattress thanks to its antibacterial and anti-odor properties.
Now mix all the ingredients, dip a cloth into the mixture and rub it over the mattress several times. Finally let it dry and… goodbye, the smell of sweat!
