Natural remedies for an odor-free oven

Since the oven is dedicated to cooking food, it tends to accumulate oil splashes , grease stains and burnt residues which, if not removed after each use, tend to give off a bad smell . The first useful ingredient to absorb them is sodium bicarbonate . To use it, heat the oven to 180 degrees, pour 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda and water into a bowl suitable for high temperatures , insert the bowl inside and leave it to act for a few minutes. In this way, the solution will evaporate, dissolve dirt and neutralize bad odors.

If you have leftover bread at home , which has lost its freshness over time, you can use it to absorb odors. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees for 15 minutes . Turn off the heat and insert the stale bread soaked in white vinegar . Leave it on overnight and remove it the next morning.

Vanilla extract is another ingredient capable of leaving the oven pleasantly scented. Fill a bowl with water and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract inside. Mix well, dip a microfibre cloth and rub the inside of the oven, the racks and the door thoroughly. If you don’t have vanilla extract available, you can replace it with a few drops of essential oil.

Finally, citrus fruits could not be missing and in this specific case we will use lemon. In a bowl, pour some water and some lemon slices. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees , turn off, insert the bowl and leave it on for an hour. Alternatively you can use orange peels , place them on the baking tray lined with baking paper and cook them at 150 degrees for 30-45 minutes.
