How to clean the detergent drawer of a washing machine – all our tips for effectively cleaning the detergent drawer

When we think of the parts of the washing machine that deserve a good cleaning so as not to interfere with the washing of our clothes, we often think of the drum and neglect the detergent drawer, for example.

In reality, since the latter contain detergents and fabric softeners, they are easily prone to dirt, limescale and mildew stains that can damage our laundry and make it smelly.

And did you know that one sink is enough to clean this drawer? Oh well ! Let’s see together how to clean the laundry drawer of the washing machine using the basin method!

Here’s how to do it
Trying out the pool method is a breeze.

a basin
a soft sponge
Marseille-Seife
lukewarm water
Vinegar
a toothbrush
Dismantling your washing machine drawer: Remove the drawer from the detergent drawer by pulling it straight out until it stops. Press firmly on the locking clip (blue cover) and remove the drawer.

Then fill a bowl half with white vinegar and half with hot water, dip all the fruit and vegetable drawer components into the mixture and let them soak for a few minutes.

Finally, all you have to do is scrub the surface of the tray with an old toothbrush, concentrating on the areas where limescale or mold stains are most present. After removing the most stubborn dirt with the toothbrush, use a soft sponge soaked in a little liquid Marseille soap and wash it to remove the residue.

Finally, rinse the drawer under running water, let it dry and reassemble it: you can use the washing machine.

Clean other components
However, in addition to the detergent drawer, it is advisable to also clean the other components of the washing machine to remove even the most hidden dirt! Let’s see together what happens next!

The drum
First of all, it is important to clean the drum, the part where our clothes come into contact with the washing machine. It is therefore sufficient to carry out an empty wash every month by pouring a mixture of 150 g of citric acid dissolved in 1 liter of lukewarm water into the drum.

Then start the program at high temperature and you’re done!

seal
Mold, dirt, and detergents often tend to settle on the gasket, which is the rubber that allows the door to close.

In this case, you should wipe the joint several times with a microfiber cloth moistened with apple cider vinegar. Then wipe carefully with a dry cloth and the joint is clean again!

We remind you that vinegar has antibacterial, degreasing and anti-odor properties and is also very effective against mold formation!

Filtered
Finally, let’s look at how to thoroughly clean the washing machine filter, since it has a tendency not only to clog, but also to clog. To clean this component, we would like to remind you to first turn off the water and not leave the washing machine running. Then place a basin under the filter to catch all the water that comes out.

Now unscrew it, rinse it under running water and make a paste of baking soda and water. Then rub the filter with a toothbrush and leave it for a while to soften the encrusted dirt.

However, for a more thorough cleaning, we recommend soaking it in a bowl of hot water and a glass of vinegar for a few hours and then rinsing it.
