How to soften hard or new sheets

For many of us, one of the best moments of the day is when it comes to an end and we have to relax between the sheets. After long days at work, going to sleep is one of life’s priceless joys. However, sheets may feel rough , especially if they are new.

To have a restful sleep worthy of the name, it is important to have a comfortable bed and soft sheets that can accommodate us without creating an unpleasant sensation to the touch.

New or improperly washed sheets become rough, especially those made of cotton. This is due to the chemicals used in the sheets’ treatments and washing cycles that remain trapped between the fibers.

Luckily, there are a few simple tricks that can make our sheets soft again .

Wash on a normal cycle

This type of washing is best suited for washing bed linen. The warm water helps reduce the annoying stiffness of the sheets.

Natriumbicarbonat

Use 150 grams of baking soda to replace the detergent you normally use. Baking soda helps soften the sheets. Remember to never use detergent and bicarbonate of water together as this could actually worsen the results.

Vinegar

Pour 250ml of vinegar as soon as the rinse cycle begins (or in the appropriate basket instead of fabric softener). Vinegar is an excellent natural fabric softener that, among other things, also gives your sheets a great scent.

baking soda and vinegar

If the last two tricks help to soften the sheets, the combination can help you even more effectively.

Salt

Fill a sufficiently large bucket with cold water, pour in a handful of salt and dip the leaves in it. Let them soak overnight and wash them as usual the next day.
