The 3 most effective tricks to restore yellowed pillows

No matter how many times we change the pillowcases, the pillows will always turn a yellowish color. This phenomenon arises from the daily use of pillows and their ability to absorb body fluids such as sweat or drool.

Although it is very easy to hide and forget about the problem with pillowcases, this is obviously not the best solution. Over time, the pillow can give off an unpleasant smell and harbor harmful germs.

Luckily, restoring yellowed pillows is easier than you might think, and below we list the most effective solutions.

Normal pillows
To restore classic pillows, simply wash them in the washing machine. You need:

200 ml detergent
80 grams of powdered dishwashing detergent
100 ml bleach (or an alternative with a similar effect)
50 Gramm Borax
Soak the pillows in warm water for 30 minutes, then add all the ingredients listed above and additional hot water. Allow the cushions to soak for 30 minutes and then wash them normally in the washing machine.

Delicate pillows
Typically, pillows of this type cannot be washed in the washing machine. In this case, take advantage of the nice days to expose the pillow to the sun’s rays to whiten it, then apply a little vinegar to a toothbrush to treat the stains directly.

You can also add some baking soda to eliminate bad odors and absorb moisture.

Microfiber and memory foam pillows
This type of pillow should also not be put in the washing machine. In this case, you can soak the pillow in a solution of hot water and very little detergent.

It is important to allow the pillows to dry thoroughly before using them again. Make sure they dry in a well-ventilated place.
