SEEDS AND NUTRITION: WHICH ONES TO EAT AND WHICH ONES TO AVOID
Seeds have become part of our diet. Defined as “superfoods”, they fall into that category of nutrients we should never do without.

Seeds, the superfoods of the diet
Most of them are rich in proteins, vitamins, healthy fats and other beneficial substances that help the body feel good. However, there are others that should not be ingested, as they are harmful to our health.

Some scientific studies have shown that these plant-based foods really do provide many benefits, although they cannot and should not be considered as a food substitute, but rather as an important nutritional supplement.

Among the seeds we can introduce into our diet are pumpkin seeds, for example. An unsellable natural supplement, they are one of the most important sources of protein in the plant kingdom, particularly recommended for those following a vegan or vegetarian diet.

Have you ever tried poppy seeds? Excellent in milk, yoghurts or to make dietary desserts, they are rich in calcium, an essential mineral for the protection of bones, muscles, heart and teeth.

Chia seeds also have incredible properties. Rich in fiber, they are a source of vegetable protein, perfect for regulating the intestine. Coriander seeds can’t be missing from our list which, according to some surveys, seem capable of protecting and strengthening the immune system.

These are just some of the seeds we can incorporate into our diet that are good for the body. However, there are others that should not be ingested. In particular, we’re referring to the seeds of this popular Italian fruit.

Seeds From This Fruit Should Never Be Eaten: Here’s Why
Look closely at the photo above. Do you recognize these seeds? Do you know which fruit they belong to? Have you ever eaten them? If the answer to these 3 questions is yes, we’re telling you that you’ve put your body’s health at risk.

If you have no idea what these seeds are, we’ll tell you: they’re apple seeds! How many times have you eaten this delicious, tasty fruit and accidentally ingested the seeds? Probably a lot. Read on to find out why you shouldn’t do it anymore.

Apple seeds
How is it possible that apples, long considered the fruit of health, are full of dangerous seeds? Here’s the answer. The seeds in question are rich in a substance called amygdalin , which is a precursor of cyanide which, as you know, is toxic, even downright deadly. This is why ingesting too many of these seeds could present a health risk.

But how much is too much? According to some scientific studies, you need to ingest 170 grams of seeds to start experiencing certain side effects, such as abdominal pain, nausea and persistent headaches. Even if it’s quite difficult to collect all these seeds, it’s still inadvisable to consume even small quantities.

For intoxication to occur, 4300 seeds need to be chewed and ingested, a large quantity that represents a remote possibility, but not an impossible one.

It’s not just apples that contain amygdalin, but other popular fruits such as apricots and peaches also contain this toxic substance. And beware of pear seeds! Even these, if ingested in contact with gastric enzymes, are capable of producing cyanide.

As you can see, it’s important to distinguish between the various seeds on the market and those found naturally in fruit. Always pay attention to what you bring to the table and, above all, what you ingest. While some seeds are truly superfoods, others represent a danger to our health that should not be underestimated.

Don’t exclude seeds from your nutritional plan a priori. You simply need to learn to distinguish between those that are edible and healthy, and those that cause intoxication and poisoning.
