There is hardly anything more cozy than crawling into a freshly made bed. In such cases, the bed linen not only smells good, it also feels much softer and has a calming effect on us.
Of course, the fabric softener shouldn’t be missing either. But when my mother told me about my grandma’s trick with vinegar, I wanted to give it a chance and now I no longer wash or dry my laundry without it.
Fabric softener contains chemicals that can destroy the stretchability of laundry and are covered up with perfume, writes the Swedish daily Expressen.
The article also states that phthalates – a hormone-disrupting substance that can be harmful to children and cause allergies – are added.
Additionally, the chemicals that are harder to break down are released into our drains.
Neutralizes bad odors
White wine vinegar, on the other hand, has exactly the same effect, but is completely harmless. Not only is it safe to use, the vinegar is also good for your washing machine, keeping it clean and running smoothly. You can also spray your laundry with it before hanging it up to dry.
The vinegar neutralizes bad odors caused by bacteria – and is also cheap.
To add that extra fresh smell, you can also add oils like lavender and enjoy the calming scent.
Recipe for homemade fabric softener:
- Use a funnel to pour the vinegar into a spray bottle.
- Add 10 to 15 drops of an essential oil per cup of vinegar.
- Close the spray bottle and then shake it to mix everything well.
- Be sure to shake again before using so that the oils mix.
