How to remove bad smells in the toilet – tips to stop bad smells

How many times have you opened the toilet door and smelled a not at all pleasant smell after cleaning?

The most common causes of this are clogged toilet pipes, bacteria buildup in the sewer system, leaking flushing gases and damage to the silicone around the toilet.

Whatever the reason, you’ll be happy to know that there are some natural, homemade tips to eliminate the smell from your bathroom. Let’s see them together!

The vinegar

The first remedy is to use white vinegar, an ingredient that helps whiten the skin, remove stains and, above all, neutralize bad odors in the house and bathroom.

Simply add half a bottle of vinegar to a pot with half a glass of water and bring to a boil. Once it boils, turn off the stove and pour the solution directly into the toilet bowl. Leave on all night.

citric acid

As an alternative to vinegar, you can also try citric acid!

To use it, you need to pour two tablespoons of citric acid into the toilet and leave it overnight.

baking powder and salt

Another very effective remedy is the combination of baking soda and salt.

In this case, you must therefore mix 150 g of fine salt and 150 g of baking soda and pour the resulting mixture into a large bucket of boiling water. Then pour the resulting mixture into the toilet and leave it to act for at least one night.

Baker’s yeast

In this case, we recommend pouring 2 glasses of water into a saucepan and adding a cube of yeast once the water boils. Now dissolve it, pour the mixture into the toilet and leave it overnight.

DIY Toilettenbombe

Finally, let’s look at one last tip that not only eliminates bad smells from toilets, but also cleans them thoroughly, eliminates limescale stains and, above all, perfumes them! These are DIY bombs that you can use when needed. To make them you will need

  • 200g baking powder
  • 50g citric acid
  • 1/2 tablespoon organic dishwashing detergent
  • Ice cube trays, preferably silicone

Start by adding the baking soda and citric acid to a bowl, then add the dishwashing liquid and stir until well combined.

Then add a few drops of lemon or orange essential oil to scent your bombs. Pour the resulting mixture into the silicone molds and let them dry completely for at least 4 hours. When they are dry, unmold them and store them in a jar.

To use, simply flush the bomb into a clean toilet, leave it overnight, and flush it the next day.
